Pointers to Help You Find the Right Bicycle

Many reasons will push you to choose a bicycle as a new mode of transportation. There are a lot of reasons to ride a bicycle that have nothing to do with your preferred method of getting places. Lots of people go cycling as a form of exercise. Some choose to cycle because they are in competitions with cycling. And there are others who decide to take up cycling as a hobby to share with their family or friends. Regardless of your reason for needing to find a bicycle, you need to take some things into consideration when the time comes to choose the perfect bicycle for you. These tips are intended to help you along your way.

It’s okay for fashion to affect the decision you make about your new bicycle. We all like one color or style more than another. Your new bike should reflect your favorites. If your bike is only for looks, put style elements and fashion choices as your ultimate decision-makers. Safety and comfort should be considered first. But once you have found the safest and most comfortable bicycles, there is no reason you shouldn’t narrow down your choice further by how the bike appeals to you visually.

If you intend to get a road bike then take 9" away from your total inseam. The size of the tires a road bike uses are the reason for this. Road bikes are meant for city cycling—the tires are thinner and work best on concrete paving. For a mountain bike take away 12 inches from your inseam. The tires on a mountain bike are not the same as a road bike. You will find them to be much bigger and designed to handle rocky terrain. You can of course use a mountain bike for road cycling but this isn't supposed to be their primary use.

You also need to acquire some safety gear. Bicycle helmets are something completely different than they once were. They are now designed to offer better protection while looking a bit better, as well. You must always wear your helmet when you are riding your bike, no matter what. You'd be surprised at how many lives have been saved from that one simple thing.

You might also consider investing in elbow, knee, wrist and ankle guards—especially if you are going to be going “off road” on your bicycle. If you plan to use your bike as a sole means of transportation, buy yourself some pants clips. They work by clipping your pants out of the way so they can't get tangled in the chain or gears. You will need to think about many different things when choosing a bike for them. You may want an incredibly durable bike that can handle being thrown around a bit. You may simply be looking for the bike least likely to malfunction because you rely on it to get around. For others, price is a major factor. Research is important when purchasing anything, especially a bike. You will also want to shop around to find the best deal. Never jump on the first thing that is pretty, find out here because you never know if you are making a mistake.
